"Camping" in the Serengeti covers a wide range of experiences, from a basic dome tent and shared washroom to a permanent tented suite with a real bed and en-suite bathroom. Knowing the difference helps set the right expectations.
A luxury tented camp, like ours, uses canvas walls for atmosphere but keeps the comforts of a hotel room: proper beds, private bathrooms, electricity and daily housekeeping. You still hear the sounds of the bush at night, just without giving anything up.
Mobile camping, often used on multi-day fly-camping trips, trades some comfort for flexibility, moving location to follow the migration or reach more remote parts of the park. It suits travelers who prioritize being exactly where the wildlife is over creature comforts.
Budget or public campsites are the most basic option, usually shared facilities and self-catering, and are popular with independent overlanders. They're the most affordable way to sleep in the park, but come with the least privacy and service.
